Greek philosophers about wisdom:

As my study of ancient philosophy progresses, my appreciaton for the theories and ideas of the ancient sages is growing. As a result of that growing interest in their views, I decided that it would be useful both for me, and other people to list some quotes about specific issues that I find interesting or useful in daily life. Here will be the list of many interesting quotes about wisdom:

Wisdom

Heraclitus

"Wisdom is one thing: to understand the thought which steers all things through all things."

"The one and only wisdom is willing and unwilling to be called Zeus."

"Moderation is the greatest virtue, and wisdom is to speak the truth and to act according to nature, giving heed to it."

Democritus

"Medicine cures the diesases of the body; wisdom, on the other hand, relieves the soul of its sufferings."

Gives to think!

You can see how those two people see the wisdom in a different perspective. Heracltius sees the wisdom mostly as the knowledge of the metaphysical (Or physical) state of the world, while Democritus sees it as the ethical mean to happier life. It isn't that simple though. Speaking the truth and acting according to nature that the Heraclitus talks about suggests us that the wisdom is not only knowledge, but also the behavior.
